Arriving at GENEVA Hair Studio on a cold January Sunday morning, Jaime Zentz, Amilee Smith, Ashley Renee Salazar, Liz Hoch, and Holly Beasley began preparing for the day.
Over the day, two models were created into two different versions of brides: classical and whimsical.
Jaime elaborated that she feels "as though within both bridal looks there are features present for every bride. Our team focused on hair and makeup designs with elements that will speak to all of the brides we work with at GENEVA Hair Studio. This 2013 Bridal Collection is fun and creative with sophistication."
Dresses and headpieces from ReTulled, the bridal and evening wear consignment boutique, were donated. George Thomas donated handcrafted bouquets, specifically designed to go along with the themes described. Christa DeJesus Photography was called in as the photographer to shoot the models throughout the day.
"I am so pleased with not only the collaboration of my team creatively but the participation from ReTulled, George Thomas and Christa DeJesus Photography. This truly was a team effort," stated Master Designer and Owner Jaime Zentz.
The whimsical bride was described as an almost modern-day Victorian. Inspiration came from the pale, natural colors of wildflowers, vintage dresses and jewelry, and floaty bohemian styles.
A new take on braids and twists were incorporated into the whimisical updo to create a unique and flattering texture. With a full head of beautiful curls, the updo was swept to one side and then cascaded down in an intricate mixture of braids and twists to highlight the model's high cheekbones and create a fairy-tale effect.
B Tenacious was worked through Taylor's hair to give it hold and moldability when creating the braided, textured look. When the stylists were finished pinning the hair into place, B Proud Holding Spray was applied to keep the curls and designs in their preferred place.
" We all had our hands in Taylor's whimsical hairstyle. Three of us were working on knotting, and twisting, and pinning until we achieved our desired look," explained Amilee.
The pink shades taken from the wildflowers were the inspiration for the makeup look. The focal point inspired look focused in on the eyes, highlighting the cheeks with Youngblood Lunar Dust in Twilight to make the face appear illuminated. The lips were lined with Youngblood Lip Liner in Pout and covered in Youngblood Lipgloss in Rhapsody to shade out and highlight the lip without drawing attention from the bright, rosy eyes.
When Liz was asked about the decision to create a look based on the pinks drawn from wildflowers, she said that "the intense pink shadows we chose for the whimsical eye really created a great pop of color to enhance the whimsical tone".
The second look was for the classic bride. Inspired by 1920's finger waves, the final look was soft and feminine - a contemporary approach to an eternally popular idea.
The wavy classic look was face-framing and flattering. The hairstyle was voluminous and beautiful, a look that is very popular during this year's award season. With a heavy part to one side, the curls were brushed out to create a delicately textured look, reminiscent of Veronica Lake.
To create the look, B More Building Spray was sprayed at the roots as a primer and body builder. B Bold Texturizing Spray and B Clever Dressing Creme were applied at the roots after the hair was clean and dry to add volume. When the hair was being curled, B Confident Styling Spray was used before and after to set the curls. As a final touch, B More Building Powder was sprinkled at the roots and worked in through the ends for maximum volume, hold and grip. B Excellent Shine Mist completed the look and added shine.
Holly said that "to create Alyssa's classic hairstyle, I used a one inch clampless curling iron to give her soft waves. I then hand formed the S-Wave pattern in the hair to add sleekness to the top".
The makeup look applied to the classic bride incorporated a defined eye with graphic liner, soft cheeks, and a bold lip. Liz created a neutral smoky eye by using the Youngblood Eyeshadow Quad in Timeless and Shanghai Nights. The more retro-inspired look included a fresh take on the classic red lip, applied by Ashley.
"To create Alyssa's classic red lip, I first lined them with Youngblood Lip Liner in Mocha. I then filled them in with Youngblood Lipstick in Vixen to define and add intense pigment," explained Ashley.
